It’s been a while since anyone has posted a movie review on the blog so I thought I’d break the dry spell.
If you have not yet seen it, RUN don’t walk to your nearest theater, get your buttered popcorn and your box of ‘Good ‘n Plenties’ and settle in for one of the BEST times you’ve had in a while. THE BRIDESMAIDS, had me alternately laughing out loud, chuckling, grinning and muttering, ‘OMG I can’t believe they did that’ the entire time.
It’s like a guy flick for women. You know – the kind of movie where you either have to be a guy or a girl to get it? And these people got it! Yes, there is some slapstick, yes there are some groaners but for the most part it’s just so witty, intelligent, funny and relevant.
Here’s the story line in a nutshell: “Annie’s life is a mess. But when she finds out her lifetime best friend is engaged, she simply must serve as Lillian’s maid of honor. Though lovelorn and broke, Annie bluffs her way through the expensive and bizarre rituals. With one chance to get it perfect, she’ll show Lillian and her bridesmaids just how far you’ll go for someone you love.”
Sounds clichéd, yes, but there is nothing mundane or ho hum or boring about the writing and the acting. I’ll confess, I was a little afraid that with the cast so heavy on Saturday Night regulars, that it might end up playing like a two hour long skit. I was so wrong. Maya Rudolph was perfect as the bride and best friend of the Kristin Wiig character – who is a really good actress. You may also recognize Melissa McCarthy from Mike and Molly and Ellie Kemper from The Office and if you were a RENO 911 fan, Wendy McLendon-Covey. And be still my heart, John Hamm – gorgeous as ever – is totally hateable (I know, doesn’t seem possible) as the creep who breaks Kristin’s heart.
So – has anyone else out there seen it? If so, what was your favorite scene? And if you haven’t seen it, what have you heard about it? I’m going again – just as soon as I get this current book written … anyone wanna go with me? I promise, I’ll try not to laugh as loud as I did the first time I saw it.

You’ll love it, Leanne. They so aptly portrayed every personality type you can think of in the bridesmaids … made for hilarious byplay between the characters! By all means – take Alisia. She’ll love it!
I have not seen it yet… But it’s on my list of movies to see.. Hoping to see it this weekend…
I soooo want to see this! It’s on my list for the weekend. So glad someone I trust has seen it and vouches for the “laugh out loud funny” potential I saw in blurbs and the trailer.
I’ve had plans to see this with my daughter ever since it came out, but we keep getting sidetracked. I’m glad to hear you liked it this much, Cindy. I’m steeling my resolve.
I must see this one! Maybe if I go to The Hangover 2 with the hubby, he’ll go to this one with me?
I can’t wait to see this one, Cindy. My daughter went with her friends the first weekend it was out and said they couldn’t stop laughing. I so happy they’ve finally come out with this kind of a movie AND that it’s doing well at the box office. One more step for us ladies!
Pirates of the Caribbean. The best scene was……every one with Johnny Depp, lol.
I saw Bridesmaids and really liked it. There wasn’t as much hillarity in the theater as I thought it deserved (probably too many Q-tips tsking and tutting), but I was also surprised at how much heart the movie had. Some of the stuff, especially the stuff with Melissa McCarthy was hysterical. What an actress she is. I LOVED her and her air marshall schtick! And the character she played and how she got the main character out of her funk were priceless! It wasn’t quite what I expected– I thought it would be a Hangover for gals, but it turned out to be more.
