My Closet

(Note gold skirt. Does it make you wonder why someone would wear this on a horse? Excellent question.)

Recently, I’ve been trying to reorganize my life. That might not sound like a big deal, but oh contraire my little buttercups. This is a HUGE deal because truth be told, I am themessiest and possibly the oddest person on the planet. But that’s neither here nor there. What I want to talk about is closets. Specifically, my closets. You see, I was going through them the other day and said to my lovely daughter, “Lovely daughter, whatever shall I do with this gold floor length skirt that comes complete with its own crinoline?”

To which she replied, “Why mommy dearest, put it in the costume closet, of course.”

“Ahh, we have a costume closet?” quoth I.

“Well,” said the dear child, “what would you call a closet that has a Gandalf hat, two tiaras, a pair of leather gauntlets, fairy wings, and three, that’s three…floor length capes in varying colors?”harley quinn

Um, so yes, turns out I have a costume closet. Who knew? I never really thought of it like that, but now that I peruse this particular closet with a more discerning eye, I see another pair of fairy wings, a full bore Harley Quinn costume (I have to blame this one on my daughter) and this thing…

I don’t even know what it is. Neither do I know why I own it. But I believe I might have another one exactly like it in some other closet? Do you think that’s a good sign? I rather doubt it. How about the fact that I have an extra wedding dress, gold metallic belly dancer pants, a velvet boostias, a man’s snap brim hat, a box o100_0621f tassels and a purple boa?

Okaay, I think cataloguing the closet is enough organizing for one day. So how about you? What’s the weirdest thing in your house?

Stay tuned everyone. Thursday the 13th through Christmas Day we’ll be accepting entries for our big no-holds-barred giveaway.

Here’s a little note from our Thanksgiving winner:

Hi Lois,

Oh Wow, I can’t believe what all was in that box. It came in the mail today and I am still shocked at all the reading material I got along with all the other goodies. I am so doing the happy dance right now, I still can’t believe it. I love the t-shirts also because that is what I live in most of the time. The one that you ladies sighed I will put up and keep. My gmail account was down this morning so I couldn’t contact you. There is so much in the box its hard to choose where to start. I will probably start the holiday books first because that is what I am reading at the moment to try to get in the Christmas mood. Thank you ladies sooo much for the wonderful box.

Thanks,

Gail~aka~Quilt Lady

Happy reading everyone.

  1. That is definitely a costume closet. The weirdest thing in my house is me.
I put up a blogpost about Finding Home, which I loved. It’s here: http://noveltruths.blogspot.com/2012/12/old-love-and-new-loves.html
    Hope you approve.

I think I need to browse your closets next time I stop by! Sounds like a good time!
I do have a tiny musketeer costume in my closet, but that’s as weird as it gets. Well, maybe the steampunk highlander vampire dress with the leather straps?

I think I remember some of your costumes — at least you can still fit into them :-). My strange closet items would have to be my belly dancing outfits, complete with a handmade coin belt and beaded bra top. Of course there is no way the coin belt is going to fit around these hips after two children and 30 years of spread! Sigh. But I can’t get rid of them — maybe my granddaughter will want to dance! Just like your costume closet, Lois, it’s their heritage! Pass it along!

I remember you talking about belly dancing…and the scarves, I remember the floaty scarves. Let’s start up our critique group again. Cary came to my signing on Sunday and said she sent you 52,000 words. Yikes.

    I’m sorry, I’m laughing so hard I can’t respond.

That’s fair. I’m realizing now that my disorganization has allowed some wonderful things to end up in other closets. Somewhere there’s a fairy crown and leather wrist bands. Where are those damn wrist bands. I can’t live much longer without THEM.

Wonderful blog! I have gold lame pumps. I was going to use them for a Halloween costume party (as part of my gold digger costume), but I ended up going out of town instead. I also have my wedding veil.:)

I have other people’s wedding veils. Shrug. Once when a friend and I were shopping at a consignment store…where most of the above ridiculous items came from, we saw a size 32 wedding dress. Friend, all 83 pounds of her, and I tried it on together and were sooooooooooo tempted to buy it so we could be a two headed bride, but alas, we were too cheap, which is sad because it would make such a nice addition to ‘the closet’.

I turned my guest bedroom into a “woman cave” into a shrine to the N.E. Patriots, flat screen included. It’s a great place to watch a game.

Along with you I really need to do some cleaning out around here also. There is no room left in my inn. My books I can’t part with but there are some closets around here that is in need of a good cleaning. Sounds like a good chore for the new year. Yes ladies really enjoy the Thanksgiving basket, best Christmas yet!!!

You have an amazing closet! Loved the photos!! Now that my mom is gone, I have some of the things that were in HER closets—like the gold lame bell bottoms, vest, and gold lacy shirt that I wore at game shows in my teens….and the gold brocade western jacket and bell bottoms that I wore in showmanship at halter—also back in the dark ages. And…the Florence Nightengale outfit I wore in costume class, using Mom’s nursing school outfit fro the early 1940’s, complete with heavy red-lined cape, nursing cap and a lantern. Not sure that Florence Nightengale ever went out on horseback 🙂 but it was definitely unique. 🙂

Love the pictures! The strangest thing in my closet would be a Tweety Bird costume.
