According to Bowker’s V.P. Kelly Gallagher, there were 211,269 self-published books released last year.
Bowker is the guardian of all things “ISBN.” Their numbers are based on the ISBN statistics. That’s a pretty reliable number.
But what about the folks self-publishing WITHOUT ISBN’s? That’s an even larger number.
Self-published books almost doubled from 2010.
This growth is both a good and a a bad thing from all perspectives: publishing, authors and readers. We live in interesting times.
