Tawny’s Top Ten Romantic Evenings
I am happily celebrating the release of my tenth book, BREAKING THE RULES, this week. And gearing up for an even bigger celebration… Valentine’s Day. Oh, the romance of it all, right? Candy and flowers, hearts and candlelight.
At least, that’s what I imagine Valentine’s Day should be. But even with my vivid romance-focused imagination, sometimes I struggle to come up with clever, fun ideas for a romantic evening. Both in my books, and in real life. So I made that my quest for this blog, hoping to give us all some ideas and see what ideas you can give me!
Here is my list of favorite romantic scenarios that I think would make for a very romantic Valentine’s evening:

- A candlelight dinner cruise on the Bay (any Bay, but I’d pick San Francisco)
- A secluded picnic for two by a lake
- Slow dancing to your favorite music
- Champagne and chocolate by a roaring fire
- A long hand-in-hand walk on the beach at sunset
- Hot toddies together while stargazing with a telescope on a high, quiet mountain
- A pampered night of luxury in a high-end hotel, complete with room service
- With the lights down low and the popcorn buttered, watch a romantic movie together
- Share a rose petal strewn bubble bath together, with champagne and soft music
- ???

How about a nighttime ride in a horse drawn carriage to a fantastic resturant that has dim lights and soft music.

I just had one of those. The kids were gone (very important). Overnight (a blessing). We had a gift certificate (bonus). To a lovely restaurant (ambiance is good too). We sat across from each other (might have looked silly otherwise). We gazed into each other’s eyes (and cleavage). We didn’t speak much (except with our eyes – have I mentioned where our eyes were?). We shared our meals (my unromantic mom would have called that swapping spits). We clinked our glasses (quietly, mind you). We smiled (and smiled and smiled). We declined dessert (because we were in a hurry). We went home (quickly – have I mentioned we were in a hurry?). The end (for YOU, but not for ME, LOL!).

What a lovely romantic evening. It sounds like the perfect Valentine’s! I wonder… are there any romantic movies out right now?
Honeymoon cabin at the lake or beach, grilled steaks and sides eaten on the deck with an ice cold dark lager or glass of wine while enjoying the view outside and relaxing in the hot tub after dinner.

A sleigh ride through the snow – the sleigh drawn by two white horses who
are bedecked with holiday finery and jingling bells. The ride ends back at our
cabin where dinner, with a prime roast beef entree, champagne, and chocolate
dipped strawberry dessert, awaits us. Following dinner, we snuggle on the
couch in front of a glowing fire, listening to our favorite Michael Buble albums
before retiring for the evening.
Oh wow. Pat, what a fabulous image!! Romance, fun, music and candlelight. And I’d imagine that the sleigh ride would provide all sorts of snuggling options. For warmth, of course *g*

A candlelight dinner would be at the top of my list that someone else fixed. Romantic evenings is something I never get.

My idea of a romantic evening start with candlelight dinner. Then a romantic comedy in the theater. Followed by a long drive just talking and enjoying each other company. Topped off with dessert in bed! 😉
