Book covers! As authors we love ‘em or hate ‘em or cry over them. I mean, uhum…not me personally, of course. Mine are alwwwaaays great. Here, for instance is one of mine from years ago. I remember seeing this one and thinking, who is that woman and why is she riding that nice gentleman’s thigh.
But hey, let’s take a look back. If you’ve been reading romance a while maybe you’ll recognize some of the names.
Remember the Topaz man? He was Penquin’s guy back in the 90’s. Apparently he graced more than 500 titles, which translates to 50 million books.
That’s a heap o’ print even compared to Fabio who first appeared on Hearts Aflame in 1987. After that the Fabs had another 400 or so before ending his reign in 1994.
Which is a drop in the old proverbial bucket compared to John DeSalvo who did 1500. 1500!! Crazy! Or so I thought until I met him at a conference a few years back. Once I saw him in all his DeSalvoey glory I wondered why he was on so FEW books. (This is him on one of mine. Sigh.)
But I confess, I’m not just meandering down Memory Lane here. I’m bringing up this scintillating topic because I have a new cover for my October book and (tee hee) I love it. Okay, true, I’ve admitted in the past that I don’t really like those overly dramatic covers. (You know the ones: He’s all macho and she’s all swoony.) And yes, I’ve said I adore that rich monochromatic, woman-only art I’ve gotten recently. But then my editor sent me this:
Anybody know who this guy is? I don’t really keep track of the models, but I don’t mind having my name emblazoned across his abs. 🙂
So, how about you, ladies? Drooled over any good cover models lately? How about in years past? Who’s your favorite? Who am I forgetting?
Hey, a couple comments mentioned Nathan Kamp, so I checked him out. Here he is. Do you think he’s the guy on my cover?? The abs look the same. 🙂
