Kathleen’s Big Book Week

Night Falls Like Silk - screen

I’m celebrating again today.

One of my favorite heroes is Thomas Warrior, who started life as young Tommy T in THE NIGHT REMEMBERS, which is still available from Avon Books as an e-book.  Now Tommy T is all grown up, still living in Minneapolis, reclusive author and artist who pens popular graphic novels based on Lakota legend and lore.  NIGHT FALLS LIKE SILK was released this week as an e-book, and will soon be available as a gorgeous trade paperback.  Here’s the setup:

Wealthy, beautiful and sophisticated, Cassandra Westbrook collects exquisite art objects with a connoisseur’s fine taste and a rich woman’s whims. She always dominates an art auction—until a mysterious artist named Thomas Warrior bids against her for a set of Native American ledger drawings.

Though he’s outbid, Thomas feels a strong connection to the historic artwork that embodies his Native American heritage and symbolizes the survival of its courageous spirit. He’s a survivor too, growing up on the mean streets to become more famous than he’d ever imagined possible. So he’s not a man to give up easily–neither on the drawings nor on the stunning woman who now possesses them.

Thomas and Cassandra are not only destined to cross paths again, but when he agrees to mentor her talented but troubled nephew, fate collides with the fierce attraction they share.

Thomas’s artistic gift haunts him as his creations seem to take on a life of their own. When Cassandra’s nephew and the extraordinary ledger drawings disappear at the same time, not even Thomas is certain who he really is or what dangers threaten those he loves.

NIGHT FALLS LIKE SILK was a USA Today Bestseller.

I’m thrilled with the way Bell Bridge Books has given NIGHT FALLS LIKE SILK new life with a gorgeous new cover.  The original art work beside my name was done by BBB editor and one of my favorite writers, Deborah Smith.

It’s been a big week for me.  Not only this book, but THE PRODIGAL COWBOY has just hit the stands.  And my two very first audio books—THIS TIME FOREVER and  YOU NEVER CAN TELL are available through Sunday, September 2 from Audible.com for a special $5.95 price.

I’ll give one of our visitors an audio download—your choice of either of these two—and I’ll draw the winner from among today’s comments.  We can talk about anything, but because Thomas Warrior’s stories are comic book-type super heroes, I thought I’d throw this out:  What’s the universal appeal of super heroes—paranormal, supernatural, beyond human, and why are they as popular now as they ever have been—maybe more so—in film and fiction?

You can find excerpts from these books on my website.

#1 Because we all still secretly want to be He-Man or She-Ra.
    #2 Because Chris Hemsworth exists.

On the #2 – I knew about him back when he was playing a schoolboy on Australian soap opera Home and Away. I knew back then he was destined for big things!

Congrats! I enjoyed Thomas Warrior’s story very much.
I think superhero let you believe everything is possible and that’s the appeal.

  10. debradixon says:

Most superheroes have an “origin” story and that story gives us hope that we can be more, be better, be valuable. It’s usually such a transformation from the ordinary to the extraordinary and that’s a universal dream, I think. That desire to be recognized for doing something valuable, something that changes people’s lives. — posted from the trenches of Dragon*Con, which has a superabundance of superheroes. :)

  11. I am so happy at the thought of reading more of your books!
